SCOTT Addict Gravel Dream Build by Dangerholm

SCOTT Addict Gravel Dream Build by Dangerholm

Scott (Switzerland) - SCOTT’s recently introduced gravel and adventure bike, the Addict Gravel, received a makeover by renown bike builder and customizer - Dangerholm.

From day one, the goal was to build the ultimate gravel & adventure bike. That's how the all-new Addict Gravel was born - one bike which can do it all. Fast on tarmac, comfortable on rough terrain and optimal handling when it gets gnarly. The Addict Gravel is most likely the fastest, most capable, and most fun bicycle SCOTT has ever created.

A bike that ticks all the boxes and puts a smile on every rider’s face sounds like the perfect candidate for one of Dangerholm’s special builds.

Dangerholm took the time to introduce his custom SCOTT Addict Gravel and guide us through every detail.

Words by Dangerholm:

Gravel has been one of my favorite types of riding and training for many years now, but I've always "just" used my lightweight SCOTT mountain bikes for it. So with the new Addict Gravel being released, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and finally get myself a proper gravel bike.

With this being my first foray into the drop bar world, I felt humbled by the task. There were a lot of new things to consider and learn, from tire choice to wrapping handlebar tape.

Luckily, I was off to a good start thanks to the Addict Gravel being a modern, capable and versatile chassis. It's also very lightweight, so while it was tempting to go all out and build it as light as possible, I chose to focus more on simply making it really fast and great looking. Something that goes hand in hand with the aero frame and integrated Syncros components.

At 7,13kg the bike is still quite light, but it was important to take no shortcuts in order to get there. So it features things like full width 45mm tires and a very comfortable handlebar tape.

The component list is as performance oriented as it gets, full of all things carbon and ceramic. But at the same time a lot of time was spent making it all come together aesthetically as well. With the frame having been stripped down to raw carbon fiber, things like the seat post and crank arms got the same treatment. The originally black rear derailleur pulley wheels were stripped down to an aluminium finish to match the rest of the drivetrain.

To create some contrast to all the raw carbon, I decided on adding some "Zanzibar Brown". The color shifts quite beautifully between brown, bronze and golden tones and really comes alive in the sunshine. With the front-end heavy paint job I aimed for an aggressive and fast look, and to make it further stand out from the crowd I went on to paint the rims as well.

Spec Highlights:

Frame set: Lightweight and aero while still being strong and responsive. The exposed carbon shows a great finish coming out of the factory.

Cockpit: Being a big fan of integration and clean looks, the Syncros Creston iC SL X ticks all the boxes. Being designed together with the frame it offers seamless integration and keeps the front end cable free. Perfect no matter if you're looking for aero gains or simply want to use a handlebar mounted bag. The matching Syncros bar tape further enhances the comfort and ergonomics.

At the rear of the bike is a lightweight Syncros Duncan SL Aero seat post and an even lighter Schmolke SL79 seat. Thanks to its shape and shell flex, this 79 gram full carbon creation is actually very comfortable.

Shifting: While electronic shifting is the clear trend these days, mechanical shifting still isn't dead. Thanks to a conversion kit from Ratio Technology, the SRAM Red shifter becomes 12-speed compatible and the SRAM XX1 Eagle rear derailleur is converted to road shifter cable pull ratio. All in all, you can run your road shifter with a 12-speed wide range derailleur and cassette.

Drivetrain: The rear derailleur has not just been made road shifter compatible, but given a complete rebuild and upgrade. To save weight and further enhance the looks, it's now almost fully made out of carbon with HOPP carbon parts. In order to save precious watts it also features a CeramicSpeed OSPW derailleur cage.

The crankset is a lightweight SRAM Red with a 46T Garbaruk chainring which spins on a CeramicSpeed bottom bracket, and the cassette is a 11-46 option from Rotor. To top it all off are the Titanum MyTi pedals. These have a pedal body which is 3D printed in titanium, and with titanium spindles they weigh just 100 gram. For the pair.

Brakes: The SRAM levers are connected to prototype brake calipers from Trickstuff. Called "Strada", these CNC machined calipers offer a great amount of stopping power. Along with the Trickstuff Dächle UL brake discs they also look the part.

Wheels: The nice aero shapes of the frame set deserved matching aero rims. The choice fell upon a new model called MGRX45 from German wheel building specialist shop Radsporttechnik Müller. Having a 45mm height and 25mm inner width while weighing just 405g per rim they were a perfect match. The hubs are designed, machined and assembled in Germany by Tune. Going by the name of Prince and Princess, these little works of art feature ceramic bearings and even carbon fiber end caps.

For a good mix of grip, comfort and speed the bike rolls on Maxxis Rambler 45mm tires set up with Syncros Eco Sealant.

With the Addict Gravel being racing fast but also capable of more adventurous riding, I wanted to give it a look that kind of reflects these refined yet raw characteristics.
