Vuelta a España (Spain) - Press Release: Ten years after his first Grand Tour victory, on the unprecedented ascent of La Farrapona, Rein Taaramäe (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) became the first rider to win a La Vuelta stage atop Picon Blanco, on Monday. The Estonian baroudeur surged to victory from the breakaway on stage 3 and also took La Roja on these gruelling slopes. Enric Mas (Movistar Team) gained a few seconds on the rest of the GC contenders but Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) stays ahead of his rivals on the eve of a flat stage 4.
The peloton roll from Santo Domingo de Silos with 183 riders as Alexander Cataford suffered a broken collarbone at the end of stage 2 according to his team Israel Start-Up Nation. The rest of the field are ready to bring battle on the way to Picon Blanco and it takes 15km before eight attackers manage to make the break of the day: Lilian Calmejane (AG2R Citroën Team), Jetse Bol (Burgos-BH), Tobias Bayer (Alpecin-Fenix), Julen Amezqueta (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Antonio Jesus Soto (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Rein Taaramäe (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux), Kenny Elissonde (Trek-Segafredo) and Joe Dombrowski (UAE Team Emirates).
