Raleigh is Proud to Announce that they Partnered with the World Bicycle Relief Charity for 2021

Raleigh (United Kingdom) - Press Release: World Bicycle Relief is an international, non-profit organization based in Chicago, IL that specializes in large-scale, comprehensive bicycle distribution programs to aid poverty relief in developing countries around the world.

World Bicycle Relief:

We’ve imagined and reimagined the world of cycling more times than we could possibly count. Over 130 years of dreaming, designing, building, and riding hasn't killed our love for bikes one bit - and we're still as pumped up as ever to get those pedals turning.

Rather than pedalling for fun like we always do, this year we thought we'd put our foot down, stamp those pedals a bit harder and get the gears turning for a better world all round. And, that's why we're proud to announce that we have partnered with the World Bicycle Relief charity for 2021 and beyond. We want to turn our passion for cycling and our vision for the future into something that helps everyone, so let's ring that bell for World Bicycle Relief.

About WBR:

A bike's not just for Christmas, for some people it's the key to accessing education, livelihoods, healthcare and so much more, and that's where World Bicycle Relief comes in. World Bicycle Relief mobilises individuals, their families, and entire communities to thrive through the power of bicycles.

World Bicycle Relief was founded in 2005 by F.K. Day and Leah Missbach Day in response to the Indian Ocean Tsumani; where more than 24,000 bikes were distributed to displaced survivors giving access to places otherwise inaccessible. 15 years later that same operation is still changing lives with bikes but has grown considerably, with more than 150 staff members across 13 countries.

However, it's not as simple as just donating any old bike - as much as we'd love it to, a Raleigh Chopper just won't cut the mustard on the rough, rural roads found in developing countries. That's why World Bicycle Relief delivers specially designed, locally assembled, rugged bicycles for people in need. They have developed an efficient, innovative, and scalable model to empower students, health workers, and entrepreneurs in rural developing regions with life-changing mobility. If you're a bike geek like us, you can find all the tech spec and info here – it’s fascinating!

How to Help and Donate:

Every donation contributes towards changing the lives of those without access to transport in developing countries.

World Bicycle Relief have made the process of donating as simple as possible. You can donate as much or as little as you like, either as a one-off or a monthly payment.

Here's something to give you an idea of what your donations mean:

  • £20 = 1 wheelset
  • £50 = 1 mechanics toolkit
  • £120 = 1 Buffalo Bike

What Is the Power of Bicycles?

It’s been mentioned a few times, and no, it’s not just some marketing mumbo-jumbo.

On foot, individuals race against the sun to complete everyday tasks. Distance is a barrier to attending school, receiving healthcare, delivering goods to market and even accessing drinking water. Most people wouldn't even think twice about those tasks, but just take a moment to think how much a bike could help.

On average it takes about 15-20 minutes to walk a mile. It takes just 6 minutes to cycle that same distance. That’s the power of bicycles. Something as simple as a bicycle is all it takes to enable individuals, empower girls and create independence. But don't just take it from us, Dianah's story speaks a thousand words.
