Position Description:
Primary Function:
This is an intermediate level professional design engineering position. Plans, designs and develops products or components in projects assigned. Performs analysis to develop design options or recommendations to improve both new and existing designs. Defines tests to be conducted and evaluates test results. May provide work direction to lower level department personnel.
Specific Duties/Accountabilities:
- Assists in the development of engineering plans and designs for a particular product or problem area in accordance with established specifications, schedules and budgets
- Leads or assists inter-departmental groups in the area of product development, product maintenance and product improvements to insure product integrity and to minimize delays in project completion
- Responsible for research and development of testing equipment, processes and programs
- Responsible for establishing test requirements if not previously specified. Develops, performs and directs the testing of new products and prototypes to verify product reliability
- Analyzes quotations and bids and works with other key areas to make recommendations
- Performs or assists with design, layout and detailing of engineering drawings to ensure they meet proper specs
- Prepares or assists in preparing engineering computations, product cost estimates and design documentation
- Creates and maintain Bills of Materials, Corrective Actions and Engineering change notices
- Assists in establishing and maintaining appropriate policies and procedures for department
- Contributes to the success of Saris by leading or assisting with other projects and tasks as assigned
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5-8+ years’ work experience in hands-on design or similar role to include product design, project management, and product maintenance
- 5+ years’ work experience with computer software and hardware including SolidWorks with advanced geometry modeling techniques, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Proven track record of innovative problem solving and creativity
- Ability to read, create, and evaluate technical and component drawings and specifications
- Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing and prototype processes and materials used
- Able to perform basic technical operations accordingly: ME: Mill, lathe and other tool room and testing equipment
