Introducing the New Boyd Altamont Disc Wheelset!

Boyd Cycling (United States) - Press Release: The revised Altamont disc has arrived and is ready to be built into your dream wheel.

New for 2021.

The Altamont Alloy Disc remains a solid option for riders looking for the value of an alloy wheelset, with weight and performance rivaling most carbon wheels.

Changes for the new model:

  • 6069 Series aluminum. Makes for a stronger and lighter rim.
  • Offset rim bed. Evens out the spoke tension between drive and non drive side spokes. Makes for a better balanced and responding wheel.
  • New Dimensions. 21mm wide internal, 26mm deep with a rim weight of just 405 grams gives a lightweight snappy ride.
  • Black Label Decals give a cool sleek look. Various color options are also available.

As always the Altamont is built on our highly rated Quest Disc Brake Hubs, features Pillar Wing 20 spokes and are hand built in Greenville, SC.

Altamont Disc Front:

Weighing in at just 670 grams without sacrificing strength and durability. 24 and 28 spoke count option double crossed on both sides. Brass nipples and multiple end cap options. Ideal for tires between 25mm and 40mm wide.

Altamont Disc Rear:

Weighing in at just 830 grams, the rear features the ultra quick 5 degree engagement of the Quest Disc Brake hub. Quickly swap freehub bodies or end caps. Available in a 28 and 32 spoke count option with brass nipples. Ideal for tires between 25mm and 40mm wide.

Offset Rim Bed:

The offset rim bed (the 2.8 measurement on the image to the left) is featured on all our disc brake wheels. This helps to even spoke tension between the right and left side of the wheel.

With a symmetrical (non-offset) rim profile  the non drive side spokes at 50% of the tension of the drive side. This means you have to lace the drive side spokes to very high tension in order to have enough tension on the non-drive side to keep the wheel in true.

By having the offset rim bed we have the non drive side spokes at about 80% of the drive side tension. This helps keep the wheel in true better and allows us to lace to slightly lower tension on the drive side. This is good for rim longevity and durability.
