Introducing Shark – KALAS Sportswear's New Concept in Adverse Weather Protection

KALAS Sportswear (United Kingdom) - Press Release: Introducing Shark – the collection that delivers an entirely new concept in adverse weather protection. Requirements of modern cycle wear are increasingly demanding. To meet these demands our Shark collection is made from the most technologically advanced materials, using manufacturing processes developed by Kinetech®, the leading supplier of specialist sports performance textiles.

Remarkable versatility:

What sets the Shark Collection apart is the range of weather conditions in which it feels comfortable to wear, constantly regulating your body temperature, whilst offering great protection against moderate cold and rain. The unique manufacturing process makes the fabric extremely breathable, so when the weather improves you don’t overheat without the need to carry or remove layers mid-ride.

“As soon as I put on the Shark jersey and bibs it felt different to anything I’d worn before. What I appreciate the most is the temperature range in which it can be used outside. I tested the collection in the temperature range from +2 to +20 degrees and was never too cold or hot, as the clothing is exceptionally breathable. It is a perfect set of kit for spring and autumn.” - Tomáš Bucháček, test rider for KALAS Sportswear.

Innovative material. Exceptional breathability:

The unique Shark fabric is not a membrane, but instead derives its exceptional characteristics from a complex manufacturing process. The material is a very light, tightly woven fabric with a “DWR” finish (Durable Water Repellent). The densely woven fibres provide protection against even the strongest winds whilst allowing a high degree of breathability to maintain a comfortable body temperature. This external finish also ensures that in mild to moderate rain, the water runs off the material instead of being absorbed into the fabric. This preserves the lightweight characteristics of the fabric and means shape and colour are maintained. Unlike other soft-shell and hard-shell materials, the Shark fabric is manufactured without use of industrial glue.

Ergogenic effect:

The Shark material also contributes an ergogenic effect, meaning it can enhance physical performance. The close fit helps to reduce air resistance and the compressive properties of the fabric improves blood circulation and provides muscle support.

All in one:

The Shark top combines the best properties of a lightweight rainjacket and a warm, wind-proof jersey. Excellent breathability however means it remains comfortable to wear throughout a wide temperature range. The performance benefits of the Shark collection will ensure it quickly becomes an essential part of your spring and autumn cycling wardrobe.
