2021 Mondraker Summum: Longer, Lighter, Stronger, Faster

2021 Mondraker Summum: Longer, Lighter, Stronger, Faster

Mondraker (Spain) - Press Release: 2021 Summum: hot metal rides fast!

Boom!… The new Summum is here! Your fastest downhill rig ever, and it comes from a celebration not just of design, but of brilliant metal workmanship: it’s precision crafted.

At Mondraker our love for downhill racing means we chase the best possible performance, accepting no compromises, and pushing our own technology and designs, year on year – demanding the very best from our component partners.

The 2021 Summum comes in three amazing specs, starting from the base model Summum, and ranging up to the Summum RR 29, exactly what the pro’s race on, the next generation of the bike Laurie Greenland won last year’s Val di Sole World Cup on! Want to know more? Of course you do!

New Summum Alloy:

With a new frameset crafted from Stealth Alloy, a new twist on the legendary Forward Geometry, smart new kinematics, new shock, fat new forks, new wheels, even fast new rubber! Rocking the fast-rollin’ 29in wheelset – also available as a 27.5 frameset and a specially designed MX-style ‘mullet’ option as raced by the pro’s – the new Summum is ready to provide a thrilling, adrenaline-pumping ride, and deliver your fastest descent times ever.

Mondraker’s rocking the metal look this year:

At Mondraker we work in any and all materials that make for a great riding experience - whether that’s how it feels on a real ride, or checking out the milliseconds’ difference in a run between one bike and another. And very often it’s both feel and speed working hand-in-hand – if a frame feels good and you have it set up perfectly, you’re gonna be fast!

And for a lot of DH riders, alloy feels good, we’ve seen it on the World Cup top contenders racing on alloy bikes last season. “Summum alloy have always been Mondraker DH riders’ favourites,” says Mondraker’s Israel Romero.

“The MS Mondraker riders really like this new alloy model... they love the new kinematics, geometry, weight balance and improved rear suspension performance. The first time our MS Mondraker team rode the bike, they wanted to race it for the next race (World Champs in Canada)… even as a prototype! That was the day after racing Lenzerheide in August 2019, and the Summum has even improved since then.”

Technology:

Stealth Alloy:

The new Stealth Alloy uses the same aluminum raw material that graced the 2020 model but the frameset is now significantly more refined, with slimmer tubes and updated geometry layout. With a nod to the Foxy and SuperFoxy Enduro and Super Enduro profiles, it looks slimmer and faster than before – because it is slimmer and faster!

As well as the design and the material, what really sets the 2021 Summum apart is the expertise and craftsmanship in creating each frameset. You can feel our love for DH in every tube, in every weld and in every finish. And that love shines through in our precision crafting.

Forward Geometry:

So, it’s longer!

All the Summums are longer this year. New frame, new wheelsize, new geometry… the reach is longer, and the bikes are even better balanced than before. The 2020 Summum 29er has four size options, with reach measurements of 430mm (size S), 450mm (M), 475mm (L), and 500mm for the XL. The Summum 27.5 is available only in Small and Medium size options, with the exact same reach measurements – with the fundamental geometry characteristics maintained across all the combinations.

Zero Suspension System:

And there’s new suspension and kinematics.

Oh yes! Soaking up the biggest hits – and smoothing out the small stuff with amazing sensitivity – at the front of the new Summum, you’ll find the New Fox 40 29 FIT Grip2 Performance fork on the R and RR with 203mm of Kashima-coated travel and the moto-inspired Grip damper keeping you on track. The super dependable RockShox BoXXer Select RC 29 DebonAir fork is up-front, with 200mm of Charge RC-damped travel leading the way on the Summum.

And keeping you planted at the back end, you still get the very best from the World Cup-proven Mondraker Zero Suspension system – specially updated for the new wheelsizes, with enhanced kinematics and a set of new shock options.

The Summum RR features the pure pro’s choice, the new Fox DHX2 Factory shock, on the R it’s the new Fox DHX2 Performance Elite, and there’s no messing with the Fox Van RC Performance on the Summum (all 70mm stroke). On each model the rear suspension has the same 200mm rear wheel travel – just as the pro’s race with. But the kinematics are expertly adjusted to get the best from the shock, geometry and frame material as a package: “The leverage ratio of the new 2021 Summum is more supple off the top, more progressive and it has a greater rising rate than its predecessor,” explains Israel Romero.

Rollin’ on wagon wheels:

Today’s tracks, racers and speeds are increasingly demanding 29in wheels – it’s the evolution of the sport driven from the very top by pro racers like our own MS Mondraker team of Laurie Greenland, Brook Macdonald, Eleonora Farina, Thibaut Laly and Mike Jones.

But we’ve also kept the base Summum model – and the RR frameset – in a 27.5 option for the riders who prefer it. The RR frameset also comes in a ‘best of both worlds’ dedicated MX-style mullet option: 29 front and 27.5 rear.

“Some riders would probably like to experience the mullet frameset combo as this option has proved to be very popular at World Cup racing for the last couple of seasons.” says Israel Romero.

And on the 2021 Summum R and RR 29ers we’ve specced superbly light, stiff wheels, straight from our new race team partner, E.13, with the LG1 DH Plus IW29 wheelset.

All the 2021 Summum models get fresh rubber: Michelin DH34 tires – they’re 2.4in wide, fast rolling and perform brilliantly on a host of different surfaces.

But it still rides like a Mondraker...

The 2021 Summum might look and sound radical – but remember, this is an evolution. You still get the underlying handling characteristics of Forward Geometry and Zero Suspension.

The changes you see for the new model are part of Mondraker’s ongoing programme of development, learning year on year, race after race and week-in, week-out about the best materials, geometry, technologies and components, it’s precision crafted – to make your fastest ever downhill rig… the 2021 Summum!
